The Awaji Island of Japan has been the prominent birthplace of numerous incense since around the 1840s when the winds blew from the West and the climate of the Awaji Ichinomiya district was discovered to be ideal for incense making. The rich history of incense dates back centuries ago with its roots originating on Awaji Island, off the coast of mainland Japan.
