Chat With C Miller

Can you tell me a bit about yourself and how you got into design or fashion?

My name is Cath

erine Miller, but you can call me Cathe. I'm 32 years old. I’ve been passionate about clothing and the arts since I was a child. That early interest led me to study costume design at university, and right after graduating, I started my own clothing brand (2017). I always knew this was what I wanted to do. Over time, the brand developed its own unique identity and became something that people can recognize instantly.

What inspires your pieces or collections — anything you always find yourself drawn to?

I wear a lot of second-hand clothing, so vintage fashion is definitely one of my main sources of inspiration. I also love to draw from my everyday life — things like images, textures, or personal emotions often spark an idea that turns into a full collection. It's really about expressing what I'm feeling or thinking at the time.

Are there any pieces that feel like your signature or best-sellers?

Yes, definitely! There are a few pieces people immediately associated with C. Miller. One of our most recognizable styles is our printed pieces — especially the ones created in collaboration with artists, using sublimation printing. Lately, our most popular item has been the “print Gato” pieces, which feature a photo of my cat wearing headphones. It started as a funny photo we took on my birthday, and what began as a joke ended up becoming a hit hahaha.

And lastly, could you tell us a bit about how your pieces are made, and how you approach things like sustainability or keeping things local?

All our design and pattern-making is done in-house at our studio, and then the production happens at external workshops located in Santiago, Chile. Each workshop specializes in different types of garments — one focuses on pants, another on knit fabrics and swimwear, and another on more complex pieces. We maintain a close relationship with each workshop, ensuring fair pay and ethical treatment.
