Amparo from Amp.ro <3

We’re the exclusive Australian stockist of Amparo’s handmade jewellery. From her studio in Santiago, she creates each piece using the wax technique.

L: Hiii Amparo! ❤️ Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got started?
A: Hi Larissa!

I’m 30 years old, and I started making jewelry during the pandemic, in 2020.

I took two classes in the “lost wax” technique and I loved it so much — I just couldn’t stop haha.

L: Where are you right now while answering these questions? What are you up to today?

A: I’m in my workshop, it’s really cold because it’s winter here. I’m taking a little break to rest my hands, hanging out with my cat Chini 🐈⬛.

Today I’m just working at the studio — doing wax work, polishing some pieces, and hopefully taking some photos too.

L: What are some of your influences when it comes to making jewellery? Have you always been a jeweller, or did it grow out of another creative practice?

A: Mmm I like getting inspired by small things — like tree branches or animal claws. I also love working with stones; I look at them and see what kind of piece could grow around each one.

I studied fashion design, but honestly, when I started working in that field, it didn’t fully satisfy me.

I’ve always loved accessories though, and I’m really happy to have found this craft.

L: We’re obsessed with your blind boxes — can you tell us more about the concept and how it came to be?

A: I’ve been obsessed with miniatures since I was a kid — I find them incredibly cute.

A few years ago, I started embroidering tiny animal brooches, but I stopped when I got into jewelry.

This year, with the whole blind box boom, I had the idea to bring back those mini embroidered designs — and people really loved them 🩶

L: Are there any exciting things you’re working towards at the moment — either with your brand or just in life?

A: Yes!! I’d love to take my brand to different parts of the 🌍, and little by little it’s starting to happen.

I also want to expand into more types of accessories that complement the jewelry.

L: If we were to visit you in Chile, what would a perfect day look like? Any must-see spots we should check out?

A: In Santiago, you should definitely visit @piso2stgo — you’ll find really beautiful local designs there and you can have a nice coffee with something sweet at the bar.

You should also check out Persa Biobío, a weekend market full of antiques and lots of restaurants offering classic Chilean food (definitely try the seafood!) and drinks. There’s honestly so much good stuff — it’s the perfect plan for spending the whole day there.
